DONEGAL County Councillors are today objecting to plans by council officials to relocated a Traveller family of 13 to a new €230,000 home.
The luxury five bedroom home is located at Parkhill, 1km outside Ballyshannon.
Cllr Barry O’Neill (Fine Gael) and Cllr Sean McEniff (Fianna Fail) have both objected to the decision to buy the house.
Cllr O’Neill said today that he stood by his objections for several reasons, including the costs which, he said, breached the €204,000 ceiling.
It’s understood a number of residents in Parkhill have objected to the relocation of the couple and their 11 children.
Cllr Sean McEniff denied he was being a bigot when he insisted that Travellers “should live in isolation.”
“Parkhill is a very settled community. I would not like these people (the family) living beside me,” he said.
