The annual Airtricity walk around the windmills will take place on 28th Sept. This is a massive fundraiser for the Minor Board. We would ask all parents to consider walking for us on the day. The more walkers we have, the more money we get from Airtricity. Any child raising €60 sponsorship will receive a new Mac Cumhaills tracksuit top.

CHAMPIONSHIP FOOTBALL.

Our Seniors took to the pitch in Convoy on Saturday night in the eagerly awaited Championship quarter final. Killybegs opened the scoring in the first min but Mac Cumhaills soon settled down. Brian Lafferty scored a point after some good link up play with Benny Mc Laughlin, and this was followed by a goal by Mickey Lynch. Killybegs replied with a point of their own but this was followed by another point from young Lynch. Killybegs hit a purple patch in the last ten mins of the first half, scoring three frees to Mac Cumhaills one, a well taken 45 by Steven O Reilly. Killybegs scored a devastating goal on the stroke of halftime, leaving Mac Cumhaills four down at the break. The lads upped their game in the second half, with points from Marty O Reilly and Benny Mc Laughlin. Mac Cumhaills plled on the pressure and and scored their second goal, Benny McLaughlin finding the back of the net. Killybegs rallied again and this resulted in another goal for them. The last few mins were hectic as Mac Cumhaills threw everything they had but the lads couldn’t get the goal they needed.

Final score Sean mac Cumhaills 2-07 Killybegs 2-11.

Scorers for Mac Cumhaills: Steven O Reilly 0-01(45), Michael Lynch 1-01, Marty O Reilly 0-02, Benny McLaughlin 1-01, Brian Lafferty 0-02,

Hard luck to Brendan, Gary and all the lads. Best wishes to Michael Lynch who sustained a knee injury during the game.

SENIOR HURLING SHIELD FINAL.

Congratulations to the the Senior hurlers who beat St Eunans in the shield final on Sunday with a scoreline of 1-13 to 1-09

UNDER 12 HURLING

Our U-12 hurlers had a great win away to Setanta Last night. The large crowd in attendance was treated to a fantastic display of hurling. The poor conditions did little to affect the MacCumhaills boys, as they scored some fine goals and long range points. A great performance by all the players, winning comfortably with a margin of 5.7 to 2.2. We now play Carndonagh in our divisional league final on Thursday next (19th) in MacCumhaill Park. Come out and support this hard working team.

UNDER 16 HURLING

Our U-16 hurlers won their Championship Semi-Final against local rivals Setanta in Mac Cumhaill Park last night. Although a comfortable win for the home side, this was a match played in real championship style with both sets of supporters shouting their team on till the end. The determination of the Mac Cumhaills players to win was evident in their attitude, hard work and no little skill. In a fine overall team performance a few players stood out, including Karl Dunnion, Jamie DeWard and goal keeper Oisin Gallen. Among the many fine scores, Arron Mc Auley, playing at full forward got on the end of a fast ball from the Mac Cumhaills mid field, turned and beat his man before driving the sliotar to the top corner of the net. With Setanta now throwing everything forward in an attempt to put a better look on the scoreboard, the Mac Cumhaills Mid field and defense stood strong to repel a number of strong attacks. The final whistle brought with it an end scoreline of Mac Cumhaills 7.16 Setanta 2.1 and a well deserved victory for the home side. Mac Cumhaills are now through to the Championship Final to be played next week.

UNDER 13 FOOTBALL.

The A team took on Termon in Mac Cumhaill Park on Sunday morning. Conditions weren’t the best with a very strong breeze blowing. Termon scored first with a point from play and it took mac Cumhaills nearly 17 mins to register their first score. But once they settled down their were always in control of the match. Three points up at half time. The second half continued in the same vein with Oisin Gallen scoring a fine goal. A good win for the lads who remain unbeaten in the league. Ft Sean mac Cumhaills 1-09 Termon 1-02

The B team took on table toppers Downings on Friday evening at home. There was very little between the teams, apart from Downings managed to convert their chances. It was a solid display from the lads and the final scoreline doesn’t do them justice for their effort and endeavour. Ft Sean mac Cumhaills 1-02 Downings 5-10.
