A leading Donegal hotelier and former councillor has slammed the Government for not backing The Gathering.TheGathering_logo_Green

Businessman Terry McEniff of the Mount Errigal Hotel described the initiative as “a lot of hot air from Dublin.”

“I just haven’t seen the seeds being sewn from national level and we need more funding.

“It’s a lot of hot air from Dublin that is not being backed up on the ground,” he said.

Mr McEniff told the Shaun Doherty Show on Highland Radio that people like Paddy Harte, the chairman of The Gathering in Donegal, were doing their best.

But he said they are not getting the support form national level.

“But the problem is that Paddy Harte and his team can only do so much with limited resources.

“I would call on the Government to put up more resources.

“There is simply no sign of The Gathering growing on the ground and this is what needs to happen,” he said.

He said he was still hopeful things will change and the event can be saved.

“I’m hopeful things will happen but I don’t buy into it yet. I would call on people in central Government to give more money.

“I think it is a great initiative but I think it needs a lot more money.

“Two million euro would go a long way and would return in ten-fold,” he said.
