The National Youth Council of Ireland (NYCI) has awarded the LOFT Youth Project  in Letterkenny with a grant to assist them with their activities as part of One World Week 2013.LOFT

Valerie Duffy, of the NYCI development education programme said the Loft’s activity was chosen from among a large volume of high quality applications from all over Ireland.

“It shows how good their work is. We look forward to seeing the group take action during One World Week this year.”

One World Week is a week of youth-led awareness raising, education and action that takes place throughout Ireland during the third week in November every year.

This year it runs from November 16th to 24th and invites groups to respond in their own way to the question ‘what world do young people want’?

During One World Week young people learn about local and global justice issues and take action to bring about change. Youth groups all over the country run activities, public events, quizzes and debates, invite guest speakers, have intercultural evenings or express themselves through drama and art.

The LOFT’s activities will commence with a theatre workshop at 4pm on Saturday the 16th of November for young people aged 13 to 17. The workshop will explore young people’s role in creating the ‘World Young People Want’ and provide the inspiration for the first wave of pledges to challenge and change which will be made by young people in the project.

The LOFT Youth Project provides a range of developmental and after school programmes for young people aged 12 to 18 in the Letterkenny area.

The LOFT is run in partnership between Donegal Youth Service and Foroige and funded by the HSE. For further details please contact the LOFT on 074-9188271 or email loftstaff@gmail.com
