Ireland’s most famous amateur weatherman Michael Gallagher believes that all the indications are there to suggest that Donegal will have a White Christmas.
The postman from Glenfin told Donegal Daily that we will have a ‘White Christmas’ and that he expects us to endure a couple of severe cold snaps throughout the month of December.
While some wintry showers have been forecast for next week, Michael believes there will be minimal snowfall in November.
However, as we head towards December that’s when the cold snap will hit Donegal and that’s when we can start dreaming of building snowmen on Christmas Day.
Michael told Donegal Daily, “All the indications are there to suggest we’re in for a White Christmas, the berries are in holly and the flowers are in colour and the bees are humming.
“I was driving home from work last week and there was a strong orange glow coming from the sun and that is a really strong indicator that snow is on the way.
“The sheep are acting restless in the fields and the cattle are shaking and years ago I was told by the old people that those signs were very strong indicators that a heavy fall of snow was on the horizon.
“I’m very confident we’ll have a White Christmas this year although I don’t expect it to be as bad as it was in 2011.
Michael has divided opinion on his predictions in the past but he has correctly predicted the weather on several occasions before and none more so than when he confidently predicted the heat wave we enjoyed earlier this summer.
Eileen Magnier from RTE even interviewed Michael on his weather predictions in July and he featured on the RTE Six One News.
He also believes ski’s given to him by a friend will be put to good use this Christmas as he aims to become the first Donegal man to ski on the Bluestack Mountains!!
“A Norwegian friend of mine gave me a pair of ski’s a couple of years ago so I’m hoping to put them to good use this Christmas.
“I might be the first Donegal man to be skiing on the Bluestack Mountains on Christmas Day!!
“It was great to be interviewed by Eileen Magnier earlier this year, and to get national recognition was absolutely fantastic.
“I’m going for five in a row so I want to keep the good run going, but I really do have a hunch that the people of Donegal will be able to enjoy a White Christmas this year.
