The Irish Railway Archives are calling on the public to keep them on track as they delve into Donegal’s railway past.

The research centre has uncovered a unique video of a diesel railcar on the Killybegs branch of the county railway.

The clip has been traced back to 1956 – three years before the railways stopped in Donegal.

But the Irish Railway Archives are looking to add more detail to the video by finding out the name of the gatekeeper and the location. They shared the video on social media in the hope of reaching someone who can shed some light on the footage.

Based in Dublin, Irish Railway Archives work on the preservation of historical Irish railway records and artefacts.

If you have some helpful information about this clip, you can contact the society’s page on Twitter at : https://twitter.com/irishrailways
