Six Inishowen Community Care Centres have received a generous donation of €1,000 each from the Inishowen co-operative society.
Six of the following community care centres that were presented with the €1,000 donation are Carndonagh Hospital Hospice, Clonmany Mental Health Association, Buncrana Nursing Unit, Nazareth House Fahan, Warren View Sheltered Housing Muff and Ard Aoibhinn Dementia Unit, Carndonagh.
These donations came about from the proceeds of a book “Inishowen Co-op The First 50 Years 1963-2013” written to celebrate Inishowen Co-ops first 50 years of trading.
Extensive coverage is captured from many of the founder members who are still with us today along with staff detailing history, stories and memoirs.
Another area of interest is the expansion of the Carndonagh branch to take over stores in Moville and Buncrana.
This is a remarkable story which grew from the vision of a few people which started initially in a disused shed on the Lough Swilly Railway Station Carndonagh in 1963.
It also details the history of the Carndonagh creamery from 1902 – 1921 and the establishment of the old Moville and Buncrana Co-ops in 1919.
It lavishly contains over 50 photographs along with memoirs from the Co-Op archives. Books are available from all branches of Inishowen Co-Op. Tel: 074 9374555.
The book is priced at €9.95.
All proceeds are being donated to local charities.
