Donegal and Glenswilly star Michael Murphy has slammed the GAA’s organisation of the club fixtures calendar as ‘ludicrous’. Michael Murphy

Following consulations between Jim McGuinness and the Donegal county board it was agreed that the club championship would be postponed until Donegal exit the All-Ireland series next summer, however Murphy feels something needs to be done to alleviate the problem.

Murphy told the Irish Independent, “Club players from week to week don’t have a clue what’s going on and county players are the same, everybody’s in the dark, it’s not acceptable and it ‘ludicrous’ to be honest.

“With the GAA calendar you never know what’s going on the next week, you might have a league game one Saturday then find out midway through the next that your out again the following Saturday or Sunday, it’s not structured at all and we need more thought behind it.

“The big problem is congestion on the fixture calendar, both can be done during the year, but it seems to be very difficult to come up with a solution to the problem.

“When you’re going in to a new season and you don’t know when your championship starts then that’s a big problem for players, if I know we’re playing week after week and when the championship is starting then that’s perfect.

Murphy will be hoping he can inspire Glenswilly to an historic Ulster championship title with a win over Ballinderry on Sunday at Healy Park in Omagh.
