SHAY Given got a warm reception from Middlesbrough fans as he made his debut – and celebrated his 600th club appearance with a clean sheet.
Boro held on for a 1-0 victory over Bolton Wanderers on Saturday and Given hailed it as a “perfect day.”
Writing on his Twitter account, the 37-year-old said: “Great to be back in action today… [and] also to make my 600th club [appearance]. A clean sheet but more importantly the three points made a perfect day.”
Given joined Championship side Middlesbrough on a month-long loan deal from Aston Villa, prior to the deadline for emergency loans.
He was quick off his line to deny Beckford a chance after ex-Sunderland midfielder Leadbitter had played a dangerous back-pass after the interval.
Boro took the lead in the 82nd minute through a penalty.
But then Bolton earned their own penalty and with Given doing his best to put Jermaine Beckford off, the Bolton man blasted the shot high over the bar.
