Congratulations to the St. Eunan’s College team who successfully competed in the RIBI Technology Tournament in St Marys School Limavady today.

The tournament consists of teams of four technology students with a interest in engineering and science subjects are invited to apply to complete in a full day out of school event to devise and build a solution to an unseen technical task.

Students must work against the clock and each team must have good communication skills, be well organised and be able to show the development of their task solution in a design portfolio.

At the end of the day the students solution in the form of a working model will be tested and judged against competing school teams from both north and south of the border.

Today’s challenge was to create a weight powered vehicle. The vehicle was powered solely by a 200gm weight, which is carried within the vehicle but can be jettisoned if no longer needed.

The maximum permitted height of their vehicle was 400mm and it was tested by measuring the distance travelled up the inclined track which rises 50mm over a 1.5m length with one ‘charge’ of the weight.

Team: Daniel Mc Gee, Harry Murphy, Nathaniel Giddy & Shaun Halvey.
