HE told fans – jokingly of course – that he might call his next album The Incredible David Gray.

But no-one among those lucky enough to see him at An Grianan last night would argue one bit if he did.

The English singer with a soft spot for Ireland (and we’ve one for him), brought his intimate gig tour to Co Donegal.

And delivered a mesmerising performance.

Gray apologised at the start by saying he was going to try out a few songs he’d written recently and which will appear on his next album.

But he needn’t have apologised; every song old and new was beautifully delivered with his own unique voice and his own unique style.

He opened with ‘Girls’ and if that’s the calibre of his next collection, then it will be worth waiting for. ‘Skellig’ was equally impressive.

Accompanied by a backing ban which included singer Lisa O’Neill (as well as a cellist) Gray went on to deliver a set which left his audience completely satisfied at the end, with some of the best numbers from his ground-breaking White Ladder album including ‘Sail Away’ thrown in for good measure.

A superb performance from Gray – and a rare opportunity for fans to get so up close to one of ‘our’ greatest ever singer/songwriters.

Get that album out soon David.
