With another perfect weekend of golfing weather, it took a 3 way count-back on BOT on Saturday to obtain a winner at Barnhill and congratulations to cat. 4 member Frank Grieve [25] who, by returning 22pts on the back nine, took the honours with an overall 40pts.

Relegated to runner-up spot, despite a great birdie at 17th but with only 20pts on back nine was John C. Nee [15]. In third place, with birdies on outward nine at 2nd and 5th but with an unfortunate “blank” at 4th, Kevin Roche had 22pts but another “blank” at 11th forfeited the win.

Gross prize was collected by Kevin Kiely with 33 gross pts, Sunday 1st December members’ competition was won by single figure handicapper Michael Collum [6], with a very hard working 42pts.

This was Michael’s second win in recent weeks, and he was closely followed in second place by Michael Gibbons [14]on 41pts.

In third place was one of the steadiest golfers in the club and white collar boxing all star Kieran Sweeney [6] with 40pts.

The Captain, Lady Captain, President and all members of Letterkenny Golf Club would like to express their deepest sympathy to all family members of club member Greg Mc Elhinney on his recent bereavement.

WARNING to all members! Have you ordered you Christmas dinner yet? Then don’t!!!! Not until you have entered the club’s Christmas Hamper competition which will take place on Saturday 7th December. Book your tee-time now as spaces will be limited.

Sunday 8th will see the final of the much sought after title, the Centenary Year Mc Donalds Mixed Foursommes winners! Playing for that illustrious title will be Enda G. Mannion & Catherine Cooke Harkin v. Mark Doherty & Maura Cavanagh.

“The Book” believes that this one is too close to call but very best of luck to both teams and we are sure that Victor Byrne, manager, Mc Donald’s Restaurant & Take Away, Letterkenny, will be only too pleased to present the prize to either pairing.

Members, and visitors, are asked to abide by golf “etiquette” and course maintenance by repairing any and all divots and pitch marks that they may cause or may encounter on the course.

Photographs of recent unrepaired divots are posted in the clubhouse.

Have YOU bought YOUR ticket yet? The club’s Free Membership draw will take place on this Sunday, 8th December. There are still a few tickets available to purchase.

First prize–5 years membership or monetary value thereof. So please contact any committee member for yours.

Congratulations to father and son duo Joe and Gerard Duffy who are celebrating their birthdays in the same week as world renowned premiership footballer Ryan Giggs.

Between all three they are 180 years young. Joe’s immediate ambition is to “shoot” his age around Barnhill.

If Giggsy is 40 years, what age are the infatigueable duo?

The Art of Playing Golf:

“Golfers lose hundreds of strokes in a season by trying to save the situation through miracle shots which rarely come off. I’ve seen golfers who were not very good at simple chip shots trying to play strokes that the best could not get away with. That is what I call “Kidding Yourself.”
