DON’T mention the ‘S’ word – but we may have a touch of snow in the next two days.

But any suggestion of a prolonged winter blast in Co Donegal in December is being dismissed.

Irish Weather Online and Met Eireann says a storm is brewing for tonight and into Thursday over Donegal.

Cold arctic air tonight will accompany the ridge of deep low pressure, bringing damaging 100km/hr winds and “wintry showers.”

Thursday will be very windy and very cold

“Thursday night will become very cold especially in Ulster and Leinster, inland Connacht, where lows could reach -3 to -5 C, and a few locations may see accumulations of snow, for example Glenshane Pass and some higher parts of Donegal and Mayo,” says IWO.

Calm will return on Friday – but temperatures will slowly rise from Sunday onwards, and by the middle of next week much milder air will return with temperatures of up to 14C.

“From Monday the trend is for relatively mild, cloudy and mostly dry weather for next week with light to moderate southerly breezes,” says Met Eireann.

Irish Weather Online says there is “nothing to indicate” a return to colder weather “before the end of the month.”

So the ‘white Christmas’ may not be on the cards after all!
