Judge Kelly: Jailed McBride for three months
A JUDGE rejected pleas for clemency from a lawyer after hearing a man on assault charges has 22 previous convictions.
Bernard McBride, who is 35 and from 50 Lough Fern Heights in Milford had told Gardai “it would take more than you boys to move me” when officers went to an altercation at the Four Lanterns in Letterkenny in the early hours of June 30 this year.
Inspector David Murphy told Letterkenny District Court that McBride was aggressive and abusive to officers, assaulting another man during the altercation.
He said McBride had 22 previous convictions, four of them for assault.
Defence solicitor Patsy Gallagher said his client had been out until the early hours of the morning and had been drinking.
“Drink doesn’t do well with him,” said the solicitor, who pleaded for leniency in the case.
But Judge Paul Kelly told the court: “This man has four previous assault convictions for which he was treated very leniently. He hasn’t got the message about this sort of behaviour.
“He has run out of rope as far as I’m concerned.”
Judge Kelly jailed McBride for three months for the Section 3 assault.
He also fined him €200 for being drunk and disorderly.
