Another day of unsettled weather is in store for Donegal as wind and rain lash the county.

Met Eireann has issued a Status Yellow Wind Warning for Donegal, Galway and Mayo. The alert took effect at 3am this Thursday morning and will be in place until 8pm tonight.

Forecasters warn that winds of 50 to 65 km/hr and gusts of 90 to 110 km/hr are expected during the day. Winds will be strongest on coasts and hills in western counties, reaching gale force at the coast.

“The rain will clear early afternoon and some sunshine will develop. With the clearance winds will moderate somewhat but it will still be breezy in fresh to strong southwesterlies. Highest temperatures of 8 to 10 degrees,” said the Ulster forecast.

Tonight will be cold and wet, according to Met Eireann: “Showers will spread from the west early tonight, but later it will become mainly dry again with clear spells. Lowest temperatures of 1 to 4 degrees with some frost away from the coast. Southwest winds will ease further and become mostly moderate.”
