Garda warning over postal delivery scam

Gardaí are urging the public to be aware of an ongoing text message scam claiming to be from parcel delivery companies.

The text comes in various forms and can appear to be sent by An Post, DPD, Fastway, Nightline or any courier company.

People awaiting online shopping deliveries are being especially caught out by this scam, according to gardaí.

The text tells the receiver that they have a parcel waiting for delivery and requests that they pay a small amount of money (eg. €2.99) in order for the parcel to be dispatched.

Gardaí took to Facebook to warn people to not click the link in the texts, as the fraudsters are only seeking credit card details:

“Many of us frequently order online nowadays and this text is sent in the hope that whoever receives it is awaiting a delivery of some sort and because the fee is so low that they will pay it. Do not click on the link provided in a text message such as this and do not input your bank card details. This is yet another scam!”
