A snap poll by new Donegal business Local Deal Hunt shows that 70% of consumers in Donegal do some or all of their Christmas shopping locally in the county.
The results were welcomed by Stephen Mathew, owner of the Local Deal Hunt shopping offers website, who conducted the poll.
“With so many people shopping online, it is encouraging to see that the vast majority are still shopping locally for at least some of their Christmas gifts and goods.
“In this economic climate, it is so important to support local businesses and jobs.
Stephen says they conducted the simple poll from their website www.localdealhunt.ie and promoted it on Facebook and Twitter.
Alongside the poll, Local Deal Hunt ran a Facebook competition for a €50 voucher for Hegarty’s Home Interiors, Buncrana, which was won by Rosaleen McLaughlin of Malin.
“As an early Christmas present, we also launched our latest competition – a Dinner for two at famous Lough Eske Castle Hotel, Donegal.
“It is hard to find money for treats when you have so much to buy at Christmas time, so this prize should provide a lovely evening out for some lucky couple over the holidays.”
To enter this competition, Stephen says you just have to Like their Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/LocalDealHunt
Stephen says they are delighted with the ongoing public response to the new Local Deal Hunt special offers website.
www.localdealhunt.ie covers everything from groceries, shoes and clothes to pharmacy, furniture and electrical goods and aims to help shoppers check out the best offers and deals in their own local area.
“You can use it to check for bargains before you even leave the house, which saves you time and money and also boosts business in the local shops.
“You can search online by product and by area from your Smartphone, PC or laptop and the site will extend across the counties beyond Donegal as it grows.
“The deals include short-term offers, discounts, promotions and clearance products so you can check what your favourite shops are offering before you go shopping.
Stephen says that shoppers can subscribe for “Offer Alerts” that will be sent to their email.
“We’ve several subscriptions already for offer alerts, because unlike other similar subscription services, with ours you can choose preferred locations and categories.
