Sean McCarron was closing up his shop just before 11pm last night when two raiders burst in.

One of the raiders began roaring while the other starting swinging the sword at Sean.

The raider then began poking the sword into the body of a customer during the raid at Mac’s Mini Mart in St Johnston.

Mr McCarron told Donegal Daily he was lucky he jumped back or he could have been struck by the raider.

“It all happened in less than 30 seconds. I was just letting the last customer out when these two burst in.

“They had scarves on their faces and one roared “give us the f***ing money.”

“He began swinging the sword at me and I just jumped back. He would have hit me with it if I hadn’t.

“I opened the till for them and they grabbed they money and fled,” said a terrified Sean.

Sean admitted the men escaped with a “substantial” amount of cash.

The men escaped in a red Opel Vectra car which was later found abandoned across the border in Northern Ireland.

The married father said he was terrified after the incident but praised Gardai’s quick response.

“It a happened so quick but I was left shaking afterwards. It was very frightening and my customer was also shook-up.

“We have been robbed before but this was the most terrifying.

“The Gardai were on the scene within five minutes and they were very helpful but they are under resourced as well,” he said.
