Hi guys,

Christmas is almost upon us! Yay:) I hope you are all set for the big day. Nikki Bradley

As it is Christmas Eve, I thought I would recap on why I am doing what I am doing.

As you know I suffered from Ewing’s Sarcoma when I was 17. This month marks my tenth year being cancer free.

It is such a mile stone for me and my family. It’s a great feeling and definitely cause for celebration.

I set up Fighting Fit For Ewing’s in June of this year to raise awareness for this awful disease.

The campaign has come on in leaps and bounds and so many people are now familiar with Ewing’s.

As you also know I decided to use fitness to promote the campaign. The reason I chose fitness was to hopefully encourage others to join me on the fitness bandwagon!

I am pleased to say it is working. I have received lots of messages from people telling me about their own battle with illness and how they didn’t let that stop them from doing what they wanted to do.

I absolutely love hearing these stories from people and feel proud of them for getting on with things instead of giving up.

This day two years ago I was in a hospital bed in St. Vincent’s, Dublin. I had fallen the week before and snapped my femur.

The femur bone is said to be as strong as concrete so I was actually quite impressed with myself for breaking it in half!

I remember sitting there on Christmas Eve watching the patients around me leave one by one.

I too was supposed to be going home but as I needed to travel via ambulance it just didn’t happen.

It was Christmas which meant ambulances were few and far between.

The strange thing was this, as soon as I accepted that I was going to be there for Christmas Day I was fine! I suddenly didn’t mind anymore.

My family had been back in Letterkenny as they had to try salvage some sort of Christmas for the remainder of my family.

When Christmas Day arrived however I was greeted by my dad dressed in a suit. He had traveled down first thing that morning.

It made such a huge difference to have him there. Later that day my boyfriend at the time, Stephen, left his own family celebrations to travel down to visit me.

To this day I am still so grateful to them for what they did. I had insisted my family stay in Letterkenny but I was secretly delighted when dad came down!

The reason I shared that story with you is to remind you that things can go wrong very suddenly and it is always harder to deal with at this time of year.

If something goes wrong for you this Christmas please remember my advice; always at least try to make the best of a bad situation.

Laugh in the face of disaster and just think, at least it will make a great story to tell next Christmas!

Wishing you all a hopefully WONDERFUL Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year. Lots of love,Nikki xxxx
