Daniel O’Donnell has revealed he has two New Year ambitions – continued health for his family and getting his golf handicap down!
The singer has had one of the toughest years of his life after wife Majella was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Majella, 53, who now has a very good prognosis after undergoing chemotherapy, spent Christmas with her husband at their home in Kincasslagh.
Daniel sang at midnight mass at Christmas and spent a quiet festive season with Majella and his mum and family.
Speaking on Highland Radio, the singer said he is just looking forward to singing and enjoying other people’s company.
“Please God we will look forward to this year with renewed ambition and just to be able to enjoy everything.
“I want to thank God for all the good health everyone is going to have including Majella and mother mother (Julia) and everyone that is around the family. Please God we will have a great year,” he said.
The one thing that Daniel plans to spend more time on is becoming a better golfer.
He says he loves nothing better than beating his fellow golfers over 18 holes.
“I would like to get the gold handicap down a wee bit. I would like to get a few more pound in that way.
“It’s great when you can get the money coming in off the eighteenth,” he laughed.
Despite cutting back on his live shows recently, Daniel says he has no plans to hang up his microphone for good.
“I want to continue doing it as long as I can. People say ‘will you retire?’. I hope I won’t retire. I would just like to continue. As long as people come to see us and I am able to do it, I would like to think I will do it at some level,” he said.
