The Mayor of Donegal Cllr. Frank McBrearty has welcomed further funding for a range of community groups and festivals in Donegal who are hosting events during the Gathering 2013.
This funding which was made available from Failte Ireland and administered by Donegal County Council will see a total of €30,000 being allocated to 42 groups from various parts of the county.
The Mayor says he welcomes this funding and believes that this funding will provide an added impetus for groups who are hosting a diverse range of Gathering events in 2013.
To date, there are 133 events planned for Donegal in 2013 and all of these events are featured on both the national Gathering Ireland website and the local Donegal Gathering website www.donegalgathering.com .
Mr. Seamus Neely, County Manager and Chair of Donegal Tourism congratulated the various groups and organisations who were successful in their applications for funding stating that “it is very encouraging to see the level of community interest in the whole initiative and the time and effort that has been put into the organisation of events for the betterment of communities in all parts of the county”.
Mr. Neely also welcomed the opportunity for Donegal County Council to work in close co-operation with Failte Ireland and all the groups not only in regards to the grants but in terms of the overall Gathering Ireland initiative.
