UPDATED: COUNTY manager Seamus Neely is chairing last minute talks in a bid to avert a crisis at Donegal County Council.
Sinn Fein and Fianna Fail have so far refused to back a budget.
If they don’t do so before midnight, the council will collapse.
Mayor Ian McGarvey has adjourned the meeting yet again this time until 11.35pm. No further adjournments will be allowed after midnight.
However Donegal Daily understands there is little chance of a compromise and the council looks likely to be dissolved – councillors will lose their seats and the council will be administered by the Department of the Environment.
Fianna Fail and Sinn Fein are refusing to back a new 2014 budget in protest at the handover of council assets – worth €350 – to Irish Water.
