Donegal native Joe Coll produced a string of stunning saves for the Ireland team at the FIFPRO tournament that was held today in Oslo, Norway.
The former Manchester United trainee was in sensational form in both games as Ireland were defeated by Finland and Sweden.
According to the PFAI Official Twitter feed, who were regularly submitting updates from the game, credited Coll for keeping Finland at bay in the first match of the tournament.
The Ireland side were defeated by Finland 1-0 after they scored late on.
They tweeted, “Coll has made a number of important saves in the second half, and could have a further chance to enhance his burgeoning reputation as a penalty shootout beckons.
They also added after that, “The forgotten man, Joe Coll, not 20 till next month, showed glimpses of why Manchester United signed him and it’s inconceivable that he won’t attract interest in the next few weeks.
He also lined out in the match against Sweden in a game that finished 0-0 after 90 minutes with Coll again producing some magnificent moments of inspiration.
However the Ireland team were defeated 3-2 on penalties by the Swedes.
Coll was only called into the squad following the late withdrawal of Gabriel Sava from the squad.
Coll is currently playing with Glenea United in the Donegal Junior League but these performances will have enhanced his reputation and may provide him with a platform to return to senior football.
It has been well documented that Finn Harps are in search of a goalkeeper following the departure of Ciaran Gallagher to Derry City.
Perhaps new Harps manager Ollie Horgan might take a punt on the former Manchester United keeper following the success of his performances today for the Ireland team.
