A BRAVE abuse victim who went public so that a paedophile could be named and shamed has blasted TG4 for using footage of him in a documentary – despite his pleas for them not to.
Derek Mulligan was one of the victims of former student priest, teacher and Irish college caretaker Michael Ferry.
TG4 broadcast a documentary about the case last Sunday – and repeated it again last night.
Mr Mulligan said he had refused to take part in programme but was angry when the programme – produced by a Belfast company Below The Radar productions – went ahead and used library footage of interviews Derek gave two years ago after Ferry was jailed for 14 years at the Central Criminal Court in Dublin.
“I was not meant to be in the programme and I told the programme’s makers that I didn’t want anything to do with it,” said Mr Mulligan.
“I made this absolutely clear and I didn’t give TG4 permission to have me in it.
“So what they did was use clips of me from two years ago without my knowing.
“I wanted nothing to do with it and TG4 have not respected my wishes whatsoever.”
Derek’s friends say he has been making progress as he continues to recover from his horrific ordeals at the hands of Ferry.
“It was a history programme rather than a news programme,” said one friend today.
“There was absolutely nothing new in it and Derek is rightly angry that footage of him was used for a programme which he wanted nothing to do with.
“TG4 needs to issue an apology. It’s appalling they would use footage when he told them he wanted nothing to do with it.”
Ferry – who admitted he is evil – was back in court last month and given another 7 years for abusing a sixth person.
