This August a team of four cyclists from Donegal will compete in the ‘Race around Ireland’ 2014.
On Sunday the 31st of August cyclists from all ovet the world will line up in Trim, Co Meath to participate in the 6th Race Around Ireland event.
In the shadow of the imposing Trim castle the participants will prepare themselves for one of the toughest cycling challenges in the world.
Race around Ireland will take racers on a 2150km past some of the most stunning scenary in Ireland.
The route will take you past Newgrange, the Causway Coast, Malin Head, the Cliffs of Moher, the Ring of Kerry, Mizen Head, the Garden county and back to Navan with in the course time of 96 hours.
The team has teamed up with BUMBLEANCE.
Bumbleance is Ireland’s one and only dedicated children’s ambulance serving Donegal and the 32 Counties of Ireland Free of Charge to families with life limiting conditions.
With such vital services for Donegal that transports sick children from the county to national treatment centres, children’s hospital, respite centre hospices and returning home all free of charge.
The Donegal team participating in the Race around Ireland will kick of their fundraising campaign on Thursday 6th Feb with there 5K family fun run and walk -AAI permitted.
We are delighted to announce that endurance athlete, writer and public Speaker Gerry Duffy will be in attendance.
Gerry’s sporting accolades include;
3 Iron-man distance triathlon(2.4 mile swim 112mile cycle 26.2 mile run)
One double Iron-man distance triathlon (4.8 mile swim 224 mile cycle 52.4 mile run)
In the summer of 2010 along with Ken Whitelaw, Gerry completed 32 marathons in 32 days around Ireland while raising €500.000 for Irish charities.
On DECA endurance distance triathlon 24 mile swim 1160 mile cycle 262 mile run.
Gerry along with 19 other competitors went to the start line of the inaugeral UK DECA endurance Iron-man dubbed the toughest 10 day endurance challenge in the world.
Gerry finished first over all by 22 hours.
