A Level 5 lockdown could be implemented nationwide to curb the spread of Covid-19, according to new developments.

The National Public Health Emergency Team has called on the government to put the entire country into the highest level of restrictions, RTE reports.

At Level 5, members of the public are asked to stay at home, except to exercise within 5 kilometres of your home. There will be no gatherings other than small numbers at funerals and weddings.

Schools would remain open with protective measures in place.

RTE News reports that NPHET has written a letter to the government tonight seeking the restrictions. Coalition leaders are set to seek a meeting with Dr Tony Holohan tomorrow, on the day he resumes his role as Chief Medical Officer.

The Department of Health today reported 364 more cases of Covid-19 and no new deaths. 100 of the cases are in Dublin, while 55 are in Cork and 31 in Donegal.
