Deputy McConalogue said the State must prevent others from going through similar legal ordeals to that of Louise O’Keeffe in seeking recognition for abuse suffered.

“Her case is a reminder of other victims of abuse who have not yet received such recognition.

“There are 135 other known cases of child sexual abuse within the school system. These cases must be addressed. Many people have withdrawn from legal action amid fears of the legal costs involved,” he said.

And he added “I am urging Minister Quinn to consider establishing a Redress Board to look at these cases. I believe this would save many victims from having to go through another legal process, and it would provide them with a fair, independent and non-adversarial route to getting the recognition and compensation they deserve.”
