Buncrana GAA Notes for Week Ending Sunday 2nd February 2014
Congratulations to Darrach O’Connor and his Donegal teammates who got their National League campaign off to an emphatic winning start against Laois.
Hard luck to Claire Doherty who was part of the Donegal Ladies team that lost to Laois on Sunday.
Membership registration nights will be held in The Clubhouse from 6.30pm to 8.00pm as follows – Tues 4th Feb U8s, 10s & 12s; Wed 5th Feb U14s, 16s & minors; Thu 6th Feb Adults. U6 registrations will be taken at their training session on Fri 7th Feb. There will be underage managers available on the appropriate nights to discuss registration fee, contact details, training, match information and various courses for helpers. Club gear will be available to buy on the first Tuesday and Wednesday of February from 6.30pm to 8pm to coincide with the Underage Membership Registration nights. Mouth guards are now compulsory for all football players and will be available to purchase. It is vital that all players be properly registered as non-registered players will not be covered by our insurance. Not necessary for families to come to every registration night, only the ones relevant to your child.

First Aid Course After the successful completion of the First Aid course we are now taking names for a second course. The course numbers are limited to 10-12 people, and it is highly recommended for anyone, even as a refresher course. The group who completed it the first course were really pleased with it and how much they learned. Once numbers are confirmed we will organise times and dates. Course fee is €40.

Under 12’s football training will resume on Monday the 10th of February.
Please make sure all children intending to train with this age group are registered. Compulsory mouth guards will be for sale on the night. In previous years a lot of voluntary time and effort has been afforded To the parents of all age groups, who have failed to embrace this registration night. Please show support for your child!
Well done to the Under 12 hurlers who were playing in the Northwest Regional indoor competition. They played 3 games against Na Magha, O’Cahans and Banagher. They won 2 and drew with Banagher. They were 3 tight games but the boys showed determination and gave it 100%

U12/10 Hurling cancelled for the next 2 weeks due to Mock
U12 Football to resume Monday 10th February 7-8pm.
Under-age Girls Football resumes this Monday night 3rd February 7pm sharp until 8.
Bring boots, water bottle & gum shield; girls to be on the pitch for 7. No gum shield, no training. Gum shields will be available at all registration nights next week. Any queries contact 0863340965

St Brigid’s Cross-making There was a great turn-out at this event last Friday in The Clubhouse. Big thanks to Carmel, Bernie and John (McCarron) for showing us how to make them. All were agreed that the Tullydish rushes were the best and beat the Parish rushes hands down! Thanks to Deirdre for the delicious homemade buns, they went down well with our tea!
GAA Dinner Dance Now that everyone has recovered from Christmas and New Year we’d like to announce that our annual dinner dance has been set for Saturday 22nd February in the Inishowen Gateway. Tickets are €25 and details to follow.
Please Note: The McLaughlin Family (Malin) are holding a fund-raising table quiz in memory of Club stalwart, the late Eamon Mc Menamin, in the Malin Hotel on Friday 28th February at 9pm. All proceeds go to the Oncology Unit, Letterkenny hospital.
Referees Course A beginners’ course for potential new referees will take place on Saturday the 8th of Feb in Jacksons Hotel Ballybofey @ 10:00am. If you’re interested in applying or want to find out more about it then please contact secretary.buncrana.donegal@gaa.ie. More referees are urgently needed to cope with the growing number of games at all levels and all codes in the county.
