Donegal manager Jim McGuinness has been given a timely boost ahead of their Allianz National League clash with Galway on Sunday with the news influential midfielder Neil Gallagher makes his return to the squad after being sidelined due to injury.
Gallagher was unavailable for last week’s emphatic win over Laois as Donegal ran out convincing winners on a scoreline of 2-19 to 1-09.
Rory Kavanagh and Martin McElhinney controlled the engine room but the return of Gallagher will be a welcome one as Donegal will face sterner tests than that of Laois starting this Sunday in Galway.
Gallagher is named among the substitutes for the clash on Sunday and his return strengthens the options available to the Donegal management.
Gallagher was an All-Star in 2012 and was one of Donegal’s most consistent performers during last season’s disappointing campaign.
He played a pivotal role in helping Glenswilly secure their second Donegal SFC and led them to the Ulster SFC final against Ballinderry.
McGuinness is sticking with last week’s winning formula and names an unchanged team from last week.
Darrach O’Connor was originally named to start last week against Laois but withdrew due to injury.
He was replaced by Christy Toye who served a reminder to everyone last sunday how crucial his absence from the panel last year was.
Patrick McBrearty remains on the bench as he makes steady progress on his return from a lengthy injury lay-off.
McBrearty starred for NUI Maynooth in their Sigerson win over Blanchardstown IT on Monday scoring six points.
