The accident on the Finner Road tonight

GARDAI are at the scene of a road traffic accident this evening.

A tractor and trailer has overturned on the Finner Road between Ballyshannon and Bundoran.

Gardai have confirmed that no-one was hurt in the incident. Debris is now being cleared from the road.

Driving conditions are extremely poor across the county this evening as a new storm arrives.

While Donegal will escape the worst of the storm, torrential rain is leaving many roads in a dangerous state.

With rivers and fields already flooded after nine weeks of rain, many roads are once again flooded.

Gardai and the Irish Coast Guard have issued a joint warning in the wake of Atlantic storm Ruth, which is causing extreme weather across the country this weekend.

A Met Eireann orange gale warning alert was issued, along with a yellow flood warning alert.

Parents are urged to use common sense and caution with children around coastal areas in particular. The authorities warn parents to steer clear of exposed piers, cliff walks and waterways prone to flooding and swift flowing water.

The stormy weather is set to continue over the weekend and also into next week.

Garda Press Officer Superintendent David Taylor said: “People need to recognise the destructive and dangerous power of nature and exercise extreme caution when close to areas such as cliff walks, harbours, rivers and lakes.”

Coast Guard Chief of Operations Eugene Clonan said: “It is important for parents to be especially vigilant over the next few days and use common sense when taking children out near the coast or inland water ways”.

If you do see someone in difficulty in the sea, on the shore, cliffs, lakes or rivers dial 999 or 112 and ask for the Coast Guard.
