Something very unique happened in Letterkenny Shopping Centre last weekend.
Members of JCI (Junior Chamber International) Donegal spent the afternoon giving out freebies to members of the public in a bid to perform a random act of kindness.
This is in response to NEK nomination, a drinking game that has been sweeping the internet of late.
NEK Nominees are filmed downing an alcoholic drink and then nominate another to do the same.
NEK nomination has received a lot of negative attention, not mention it has been linked to some young people deaths.
JCI Donegal wanted to do something to turn this negative into something more positive and came cross RAK Nomination.
RAK Nomination or a Random Act of Kindness Nomination is when you perform a random act of kindness and then nominate someone else to do the same.
The aim is to create a chain of positive actions rather than negative actions.
For their RAK Nomination, members of JCI Donegal decided to give out free cake, donated by I Want Candy, Ireland, delicious food from Joe’s Butchers and presents donated by Letterkenny Shopping Centre.
Emma Boylan President of JCI Donegal commented; “We hope to inspire others to take up the RAK Nomination challenge.
“There was such a positive reaction! It was also great to see everyone coming together to help.
JCI is about coming together as a community and creating positive change so every JCI branch in Ireland wants to get involved. JCI Donegal have nominated JCI Cork to do a RAK Nomination next and they will nominate another JCI branch and so on.
It is hoped the craze of NEK Nomination will be stamped out soon. JCI Donegal feel that the introduction of RAK Nomination is a step forward. JCI Donegal’s RAK Nomination was filmed and can be seen here
