Gardai are examining the possibility that a young Donegal man who died at his home may have suffered a head injury in an incident earlier.

Dean Lafferty, who was just 18, was pronounced dead at his home at Admiran Park in Stranorlar at 8pm on Monday evening.

It is understood the teenager had been socialising in nearby Ballybofey and also in Letterkenny on Sunday evening.

It is believed he may have received a blow to the head before he returned home to Stranorlar in the early hours of Monday morning.

The young man, a gifted artist, was found by family members at his home.

They immediately called the emergency services who arrived a short time later.

However the former St Columba’s College student was pronounced dead at the scene.

Dean’s body remained at the scene until the arrival of state pathologist Marie Cassidy in Co Donegal yesterday.

Members of the Garda forensics unit were also at the scene carrying out a full investigation.

The results of that post mortem were still being awaited last night.

Hundreds of messages have been flowing in on social media for the gifted young artist.

Dean had previously been an apprentice tattoo artist at the Sweet Ink parlour in Ballybofey.

Many of the popular young man’s friends drew pictures which they posted on Facebook in tribute to his passing.

Local county councillor Patrick McGowan said his sympathy was with Dean’s extended family at this time of his tragic passing.

“There is a deep shadow of sorrow over the whole area since the news of Dean’s death has filtered out,” he said.
