The LYIT Ladies team have reached the All-Ireland final after defeating UCD 2-1 in Letterkenny this afternoon.
In what was a pulsating encounter between the two sides it was LYIT who started the better and they raced into a two goal lead at half-time.
Excellent goals from Denise Doherty and Sarah Faulkner put the home side in a commanding first half position.
UCD bombarded the LYIT defence in the second half and pulled one back with just ten minutes remaining.
However the LYIT defence stood firm and claimed a famous win over UCD.
It was a resolute performance from the LYIT side and they can now look forward to playing in an All-Ireland Final.
Manager Niall McGonagle was ecstatic with the result and performance from his side.
He told Donegal Daily, “Hugely proud to say the least, what an outstanding achievement.
“So proud to say I coached a team that battled like that from start to finish.
“The pressure from UCD in the second half was immense but we stood firm and we answered everything they threw at us.
“To reach an All-Ireland is an incredible achievement and I’m just so proud of the team.
LYIT will meet either Waterford IT or Trinity in the decider.
Well done girls and good luck in the final.
