The Donegal Chamber Orchestra with special guests the Donegal Youth Choir and Junior Choirs with over 50 local singers from the Donegal choirs aged from 7 – 24 yrs are to perform a very special concert.
The concert takes place on February 17th, at 3pm in the Balor Arts Centre in Ballybofey.
They shall be performing works by renowned Irish composer Elaine Agnew, the programme includes two of her choral pieces alongside a selection of her instrumental works. Music by Mozart and Vivaldi will also be included.
Elaine Agnew is a renowned Irish composer whose many works have been commercially released, performed and commissioned worldwide. Her works regularly feature in the repertoires of such artists as the Vogler Quartet, cellists Robert Cohen and Evžen Rattay, Irish Chamber and Scottish Chamber Orchestras, violinists Isabelle Faust and Catherine Leonard and pianists Angela Hewitt and Romain Descharmes. Elaine was also appointed the first RTÉ lyric fm Composer-in-Residence in association with the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra. Her most recent premiere last year’s BBC Proms in the Royal Albert Hall, London where her commission Dark Hedges was described as “…..compelling from beginning to end.”
Donegal Chamber Orchestra is made up of classical string players from across county Donegal. Led by violinist Orsi Szabo-Yelamo under the artistic direction of Victor Yelamo, it is dedicated to helping students and amateur musicians achieve the highest level of excellence in performance. Their focus in 2013 is on the music of Elaine Agnew.
