On the night Aodh Ruadh footballers and hurlers – male and female – will take on opponents from Killybegs in what should be a night of explosive entertainment. A limited number of fight sponsorship deals remain available contact any committee member for further information.

~ FOOTBALL ~

The underage football fixtures calendar has been released. We’ve published the Aodh Ruadh fixtures for all teams on aodhruadh.org.

Indoor training continues this Friday 8th February. Under 6s are in the Mercy Hall at Colaiste Cholmcille from 6pm to 7pm followed by the under 8s from 7pm to 8pm, also in the Mercy Hall. Under 10s are training in the new hall at Colaiste Cholmcille from 6pm to 7pm. That session is followed by the under 12s from 7pm to 8pm, also in the new hall. There is a charge of €2 per head to cover the cost of the hall. Please bring runners as no other footwear allowed. Under 8s will also be expected to wear mouth guards as per GAA policy. Any parent who would like to pitch in with traffic control or managing drills is more than welcome and asked to make themselves known to the coaches on the evening. These are primarily fun training sessions so no great coaching expertise is required. Parents/Guardians are asked to please collect children promptly after their session is finished.

We will be taking registration at both sessions in both halls this Friday. There will be forms available on the night. The fee for children born from 2003 onwards is €15 and €25 for players born in 2002 or before.

~ LADIES ~

Under 8 and under 10 training continues this Wednesday 6th February at 6.00pm to 6.45pm in Mercy Hall, with under 12 training following from 6.45pm to 7.30pm. There will be a charge of €2 to cover the cost of the hall. All new members will be made most welcome.

The ladies committee are hosting the table quiz in Owen Roe’s this Thursday at 9.45pm and we would really appreciate as much support as possible. However if you are unable to make it for some reason, but would like to make a donation or buy tickets for the raffle please contact any committee member or underage coach and they will be happy to help.

~ HURLING ~

Aodh Ruadh play their first competitive senior adult hurling match since the 2010 Donegal junior championship win this Saturday 9th February at 2pm when they travel to Ballymena to take on All-Saints in division 5B of the Táin club hurling league.

Underage hurling for all teams from under 8s to minor will be resuming on Sunday 3rd March at Father Tierney Park. Hurls and helmets will be provided for training, all welcome especially beginners. Schools will be contacted nearer the time. For any information on underage hurling please contact John Rooney on 086-2587793.

Well done to all our lads who have been training with the county minors since Christmas. The lads played Saint Eunan’s seniors in a challenge game last Saturday. Tommy Gillespie, Ciaran Rami, Conor Kennedy, Eddie Lynch and Donal Sweeny all played and did very well.

~ YES WE CAN ~

There is now a drop off point for aluminium cans for recycling for Aodh Ruadh at Mace in the Saimer Court Shopping Centre. The next collection day in Father Tierney Park takes place on Saturday 16th February from 12 noon to 1am. Other scrap metal can be brought to Father Tierney Park that day for recycling and to help raise much needed funds for the club. For any information in relation to this campaign please contact John Rooney 086-2587793 or Kieran Drummond 086-2368295.

~ HISTORY ~

We have a significant addition to the history section of aodhruadh.org. It is a club minute book covering the period from 1946 to 1950. The book was donated to the club by Peggy Slevin, widow of club stalwart, Sean Slevin. This valuable record of the club’s earlier years can now be browsed on aodhruadh.org.

~ SHAM TV ~

The latest addition to Sham TV is courtesy of Jim Kane. It’s the 1986 county semi-final against Kilcar. A very composed, accomplished performance from Ballyshannon seeing them into the final on a scoreline of 2-11 to 1-6.

~ OFF THE PITCH ~

Ballyshannon Drama Society will be staging Snake In The Grass by Alan Ayckbourn in the Abbey Centre, Ballyshannon on February 12th, 13th, 14th and 16th. Curtain up is at 8pm on each night. Ticket bookings can be made in the box office, 071-9851375.
