A Donegal councillor has hit out at the Letterkenny Municipal Authority after his motion was withdrawn from today’s meeting of the council.

Councillor Ian McGarvey was left fuming after a motion regarding the erection of a mast at Drumonaghan Woods in Ramelton was withdrawn.

Councillor McGarvey was told that the motion had been discussed several times before and was ruled out.

The Ramelton councillor said he had ordered a bus from 2.30pm and asked chairman Jimmy Kavanagh to suspend standing orders to see the area of the proposed telecommunications mast.

He said that 264 people had signed a petition against the mast.

However chairman of the council, Jimmy Kavanagh, said there were other issues on the agenda and he had planned to get on with the meeting.

Councillor Gerry McMonagle commended the dogged fashion that Colr McGarvey got the motion in but said this was an issue which the council had no control over.

Councillor Liam Blaney said he agreed that Colr McGarvey has to be commended but stressed that the issue was raised several times before.

He said that he didn’t think he was or should be treated because of his age.

Councillor Kevin Bradley said he also commended

Councillor John O’Donnell said it was disappointed that it had come to this but he would get on the bus with Councillor McGarvey.

“It is disappointing what it is happening down there,” he said.

Councillor Michael McBride said the council had no input they had no input into the decision but said that this was unfortunate – that councillors had no input into their own area.

“We’ve a lot of stuff on the agenda and we have to get on with the meeting but I see where Colr McGarvey is coming from,” he said.
