A delegation of parishioners last night met with Glencolmcille priest Fr Bill McGeady in an effort to ask him to change his mind about leaving his post.
The group of parishioners are believed to have held a symbolic walk through Glen and to the parochial house
Earlier yesterday afternoon, local Colr Brendan Byrne said he had been approached by a number of locals concerned with Fr McGeady’s resignation.
The Gaoth Dobhair priest, 74, told parishioners last Sunday that he was quitting his post claiming he had been physically and verbally abused in the parish.
However the vast majority of people in the area have backed Fr McGeady.
Colr Byrne urged for mediation between the priest and those who have criticized him saying that “nothing is insurmountable.”
Asked if he would personally like if Fr Bill to rethink his position, he said he would.
