gavel1A DRUNK Co Donegal man who doesn’t normally drink downed vodka and champagne at a nightclub before turning nasty at an Indian restaurant, a court has heard.

Andrew Morgan, from 30 Glenpatrick, Donegal Road, Ballybofey, admitted two charges when he appeared before Letterkenny District Court.

The court heard that on November 11 last 20-year-old Morgan had won VIP tickets to a nightclub in Letterkenny.

When he and his friend arrived, said his solicitor Patsy Gallagher, Morgan was greeted with free champagne and a bottle of vodka.

“He does not drink and should not drink,” said Mr Gallagher.

Garda Gregory Ryan however was later called to the Taj Mahal restaurant after a complaint from staff who said he had bought food there but was now throwing it around the restaurant, upsetting staff and other diners.

Morgan later agreed to leave the Indian restaurant but wouldn’t go home, said Gda Ryan in his statement.

He swore at Gardai and was arrested and taken to Letterkenny Garda Station where he was later charged with two offences.

“You wouldn’t like it if someone threw food all around you,” said Judge Paul Kelly.

He fined Morgan €150 for being insulting in a public place and €100 for failing to follow the direction of Garda Ryan.
