Rosses pugilist Shaun Mc Shane faces a tough challenge at The Lagoon Centre, Paisley tonight when he takes on Polish fighter Marek Lackowski.

Mc Shane lands a telling blow in his last fight against Ryan Love.

Mc Shane lands a telling blow in his last fight against Ryan Love.

Mc Shane has only recently turned professional, and at the age of 33, his entry into the ranks of professional boxing has come at a late stage.

Mc Shane had a glittering amateur boxer career and a career in professional boxing seemed a realistic one.

However Mc Shane fell out of love with the game and explored other career avenues before returning to his first love boxing.

McShane admitted he had never given up on his dream of one day turning professional, and expressed his satisfaction at turning professional even if it was at the age of 33.

“I had the offer when I was younger to turn professional, but it didn’t feel like it was the right time due to work commitments.

“I’ve kept myself in good shape and have good experience in the amateurs.

“I always dreamed of turning pro, and whatever happens at least now I can always say I was a pro boxer.

Mc Shane was very impressive in his professional debut victory over Ryan Love.

Mc Shane gave a professional performance and controlled the bout from start to finish, displaying experience that wouldn’t necessarily be the norm from a fighter making his professional debut.

Tonight, Mc Shane faces a formidable test when he faces the highly rated Polish fighter Marek Lackowski.

Lackowski is based in Aberdeen and fights out of stable of Tommy Gilmour.

He’s only had five professional fights but has lost two of those bouts, but one of the defeats came against the current Scottish Welterweight champion.

Lackowski took him the distance and narrowly lost out on a points decision.

Mc Shane is acutely aware that Lackowski is of higher calibre than his previous opponent and he will have to be at his best if he’s to record another win.

“He’s a top quality fighter and pushed the current Scottish Welterweight champion to the distance, so I know I’m going to have to be on top form if I’m to record a victory.

“I was offered this fight last minute, so my preparations have been far from ideal, but I’m confident in my ability and if he is to beat me he’ll have to work hard for it.

Mc Shane had a huge crowd of supporters cheer him on to victory in his last fight, and a large crowd of the Donegal diaspora based in Glasgow are expected in Paisley tonight to support the Rosses fighter again.

“The support has been great, and I was overwhelmed by the support in the last fight.

“There is obviously a large Irish and Donegal community based in Glasgow and hopefully they’ll make the trip to Paisley tonight, and hopefully I can give them something to cheer about.

Mc Shane is the first fight on tonight’s card, and the fight is expected to get underway around 7pm in The Lagoon Centre, Paisley.
