BREAKING NEWS: Gardai are hunting an armed raider who robbed a shop assistant at knifepoint last night.
The terrifying incident happened around 7.30pm when a man walked into Cullen’s shop in Cockhill, Buncrana brandishing a knife.
He demanded money and escaped on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Nobody was hurt during the raid.
The shop is owned by popular local man Cathal Cullen.
Gardai were on the scene quickly and carried out searches and door-to-door investigations.
Local Sinn Fein councillor Ciaran McLaughlin has condemned the attack and said his thoughts were with Mr Cullen and his staff.
“I have been shopping in Cullens for years and they are always very helpful and kind.
“Thankfully nobody was hurt but I am asking anybody who may have witnessed anything unusual to come forward and help Gardai.
“The fact that a knife was used in the incident makes it all the more sinister. Anything could have happened,” he said.
Locals say the Cockhill Road would have been very busy today as the Westbrook Bridge was closed due to roadworks.
