An Grianan Theatre has confirmed there is an issue with the theatre’s roof which has resulted in leaks to the administrative office and first dressing room.An Grianan

The Letterkenny theatre was at the centre of a safety scare after a former committee members expressed concern at the leak.

Paddy O’Connor said action needed to be taken immediately to prevent the leak from becoming a major issue.

A spokesman for An Grianan said “These spaces are adjacent and are based on the upper right hand side of the building. Presently the leaks are confined to these spaces.

“The rest of the theatre building in fully functional and open to the public and the theatre’s user groups. There is no health and safety issue for any members of the public, performers or theatre staff.”

He added the leaks in the administrative office have inconvenienced theatre staff and as a result the administrative team has relocated to the meeting room space in the down stairs area of the theatre.

The knock on effect of using the meeting room space for office accommodation means that the meetings and classes which were held in that space have to be relocated to other places.

“We are using the stage for classes when it is free and other classes have been accommodated by our colleagues in the RCC.”

An Grianan Theatre is owned by the Donegal County Council and the Council is fully aware of the situation regarding the roof.

The Council’s Facilities Manager Mr Paddy Mullan has been active and helpful in investigating the problem with the roof.

He has commissioned a report which identifies the cause of the problem and makes recommendations to address it. That report was recently sent to senior management with in the Council and we are currently awaiting their response.
