There will be no holds barred when St. Eunans GAA Club and Letterkenny Rugby Club square up to each other at this years Lord Of The Rings.

The clubs have decided to join up to raise funds for both sports in what promises to be a wonderful night’s entertainment in Letterkenny. Each club will have 17 boxers from their perspective clubs lined up to fight each other on the night.

We profiled seven boxers who will compete at this year’s event last week. Here are the profiles of some of the other boxers competing at this year’s event.

Matthew “THE OUTLAW” Horner        Matthew Horner

This guy is not scared of a challenge – evidenced not least by his charity sky-dive from 14,000 feet.   In his (limited) spare time this popular mechanic enjoys Ju-Jitsu, watching Formula 1 racing and playing pool.…with his next personal sporting ambition to win his Lord of the Ring fight on March 15th.  Although a bit scared of stepping out in front of the crowd, with his quick hands and experience in battle this guy won’t let the nerves get in the way for too long – one definitely to watch!!

Kieran “Now Doc” Doherty    Kieran Doherty

Kieran works with the defence forces and to date his highlight in life was the birth of his daughter Tayla.  A former schoolboy ‘great’ with Glencar underage and St. Eunan’s, his pass times still include soccer, golf and GAA.  Of note and slightly of-centre one of his notable sporting achievements was winning the title of Underwater Dart Player of the Year!!!!  No concerns for what lies in store on the night but his family have told him that if he gets beat “don’t come home”….. so fingers crossed it goes his way otherwise he could be looking for a bed that night!!!

Áine “THE BADGER” Rafferty   Aine Rafferty

Áine has taken to boxing like a pro and is thoroughly enjoying the experience of the White Collar Boxing.  Whilst admitting the training was tough at the start, she soon settled into things.  Her pass times are Gaelic and skiing with her ambition being to win a senior county medal for St. Eunan’s.  Áine can’t wait for the fight night, yet her mum on the other hand can’t wait for it to be over (possibly not the only mother thinking that way!)!!!  Though professing she’ll be happy just to avoid an ‘embarrassing knockout’ on the night, a sticky timekeeper, she won’t want the fight to end if her opponent holds her up…….no messing here with this one!

John “THE PHARAOH” Logue     John Logue

John is a well known Letterkenny man and that isn’t just because he is a man that towers above the rest – his charm, grace, wit and of course outstanding natural beauty make John a household name (in his own house at least!).  His family have very mixed thoughts on him competing due to his ‘false’ knees.
At training “The Pharaoh” is usually the body on the floor, on his knees or at the back of the pack… but really we know this is all for show.  His ambition in life is to shoot level par in golf but sadly we know whatever chance he has of winning his fight he definitely doesn’t have a hope of completing his ambition.  This modest young man’s hobbies include golf, reading, gardening, knitting and baking cupcakes….. lets hope the baking has stopped during training John or it could be you getting ‘caked’ in the face on the night!!!!!!!

Paul “SUGAR GREY” Crampsie    Paul Crampsie

A St. Eunan’s stalwart, this man is well used to new challenges; with his pass-times involving adventure races and swimming.  Paul has always wanted to try the boxing and with his wife’s family involved in the sport he has plenty of help (instruction!!) to perfect his talents.
Paul has much experience in competitive sport having represented Donegal at minor and Under 21 level and has three county Senior titles, with success off the field also counting a highlight of his working career as getting promoted to acting manager in the.
An admitted hater of “know it alls” and “bluffers” Crampsie is out to blow their cover on the night so here is hoping his opponent knows his stuff or they may be in for a very, very long three rounds!!

Gerard “THE WARRIOR” Devine     Gerard Devine

Gerard is a carpenter by trade and enjoys running and of course GAA.  Competing in the White Collar Boxing to raise money for the club and to get fitter, his ambition in sport is to win a county medal with St.Eunan’s. “The Warrior” many hobbies also including clay pigeon shooting, hill-walking and soccer.  The Warrior though admits to some signs of being a mere-mortal acknowledging the intensity and strain of Danny Ryan’s training ‘takes a bit of getting used to’.  We are hoping that his fear definitely does not come true on the night – black eye and broken nose –  cause the photos at the wedding the next day definitely won’t be of Gerard!!!!

Stephen “THE BIG L” Sweeney

This is THE Stephen Sweeney, well-known local businessman form the Swilly Drive & Group.  When reading Stephen’s application form the word “OLD” was entered quite a few times – declaring it so often on the form doesn’t mean you can use it as your excuse on the night, should it not go as well as secretly  hoped!!!  A veteran of the original Lord of The Ring series where he took on Jason Black, Stephen is no doubt a successful and seasoned pugilist that said, of late he prefers to stick to soccer, Gaelic football and ‘social’ boxing.  ‘Abandoned’, his family think he’s spending way too much time with Danny Ryan so he will have a lot of making-up to do when the when training is finished. As mentioned, a LOTR veteran, Sweeney is putting his unbeaten record on the line (well OK, it was only one fight) to prove his doubters wrong and finally take of his boxing ‘L-plates’!

Ronan “CAPTAIN FANTASTIC” O’Donnell

Short and sweetly…..a giant!
Ronan is a busy mechanic at Highland Motors and doorman at the Grill Niteclub in Letterkenny who enjoys rugby and rallying.  ‘Enjoying’ the training (as much as he did last year!)  this time around though he feels  it has been HIM giving Danny the tips this time as he won his fight in Lord of the Ring 3.
His sporting hero is incredible Letterkenny rugby legend and all round nice guy, Boyd Robinson (poor Ronan most not see many other sports) and counts his life’s ambition is to be a better tackler than Boyd, although as anyone who knows of “Fearsome Boyd’s” reputation appreciates this is not  likely to be possible.
A softy at heart, Ronan is mainly competing this year as he wants the chance to fight his childhood / best friend, St. Eunan’s Sean Hensey, although maybe not ‘best friend’ considering he dearly wants to knock him out!!!!
