Donegal Gardai were forced pursue a van and then use a stinger device after he bolted from a checkpoint.
The incident happened at a routine checkpoint in the Carndonagh area last night.
Gardai from Buncrana were operating a checkpoint when they signalled the van to stop.
However, the driver failed to stop and sped off and drove dangerously for a distance.
Gardai pursued the van and members of the Buncrana Roads Policing Unit were forced to deploy a stinger device.
The van was eventually brought to a halt and the driver was arrested at the scene.
Gardai checked the van at the scene and found it had no insurance and had been fitted with false registration plates.
Gardai have confirmed the driver was charged and will appear in court on a later date.
