A LONE protestor says he will continue his picket outside Donegal’s biggest hospital until the Government gives a commitment to frontline services.
Barney Duffy, armed with a single flag bearing the insignia of the 24/7 Frontline Services Group which includes nurses, teachers and gardai, says “someone has to take a stand” if services are to be saved.
“I just decided to do it,” said Barney outside Letterkenny General Hospital.
“I’d be very happy if more people wanted to join me.
“I am getting great support from the public driving past and from the staff coming and going to the hospital.
“Great protests have always had small beginnings and if people feel the same then they are welcome to join me.”
Motorists have been honking their horns driving past Barney over the past three days.
And some people have stopped to offer him tea and biscuits.
Barney said he had drive to Dublin last week for a frontline services protest and was inspired by the speeches there.
“None of the people who wrecked the country have ever been held to account. I want to stay here until the Government vows to protest our frontline services,” he added.
