There will be no holds barred when St. Eunans GAA Club and Letterkenny Rugby Club square up to each other at this years Lord Of The Rings.
The clubs have decided to join up to raise funds for both sports in what promises to be a wonderful night’s entertainment in Letterkenny. Each club will have 17 boxers from their perspective clubs lined up to fight each other on the night.
We profiled seven boxers who will compete at this year’s event last week. Here are the profiles of some of the other boxers competing at this year’s event.
Sammy “HITBAG” Bogan 
Sammy is a teacher and his current pastime is wedding planning so he is happy to be training as this gets him out of his duties a few nights during the week. His family really hope he doesn’t get hit as he is “far too beautiful”……!!!
Sammy’s most enjoyable experience so far is getting to punch Boyd Robinson so fingers crossed this will be a match on the night. He is really hoping he will not be last fight of the night otherwise the bar better stay open till it’s over! This “hairless wonder” hates people with hair (!!!) and as he quotes at the bottom of his application form (and we all agree)…….BOGAN VS ROBINSON all the way.
Kevin “WHAM BAM” Duran Duran 
This student Nurse plays flanker for Letterkenny Rugby Club. He enjoys travelling, golf, training and socialising. He is looking forward to getting into the ring and see what “damage” he can do…..his mum isn’t happy with him taking part and his dad is supporting the other guy (can’t beat the support of loved ones!!). His sporting hero is Ulster rugby giant Stephen Ferris and Kevin counts his best achievement as winning the Gordon West Cup. This guy is one person that has a few pet hates – women drivers (controversial), cold mornings and St.Eunan’s GAA – the feeling is this is going to be guy not to be messed with on the night!!!!!
Michael “THE WALL” Martin 
Michael works as an operator and his favourite pastimes are darts and drinking (long established winning combination)!!!! His main reason for taking part in this year’s Lord of the Ring is because “you do not say NO to Charlie Mulgrew” His family would be delighted to see him get beat but if he competes anything like is sporting hero “Damien McClafferty” we know that this guy won’t go down without a big fight. A man in great shape and itching to get in to the ring!
Tony “THE CRANFORD HOTSTEPPER” McBride 
Tony is a gym instructor and his ambition in life is to become a PE Teacher or just like Jim McGuinness. His main reason for doing the boxing because he wants to do his bit for the club but also so his life time dream gets that bit closer and of becoming more like as the best looking man in Letterkenny, the oh so FAMOUS as Stephen “Head” McConnell. Tony took part in Lord of the Ring 3 and hopes his winning streak will keep going, if the dance moves that he learnt in taking part in Jigs ‘n’ Reels are anything to go by, this guy is one person who will ‘run’ rings around any opponent. Speedy and experienced…..McBride will be fighting hard to become one of very few Lord of the Rings DOUBLE CHAMPIONS!
Ciaran “THE GREENE MACHINE” Greene 
Working as a financial advisor, Ciaran is still searching for that highlight of his working career! His main reason for taking part in the boxing is the fitness. His family are hoping he will get hit hard and one thing Ciaran himself fears on the night…….. is nothing at all!!! (Is this motivation to his opponent or what!!) His ambition in life is to play in a World Cup but deep down we all know he hasn’t a hope unless the World Cup is a competition on who can get the best tan before entering a boxing ring, then he might have a chance….. Ciaran is one guy that is out there to win, so will definitely be a fight to enjoy!
Jason “AGNES BROWNE” Black 
Well known local business man Jason Black is no stranger to the ring. His ambition in life is survival and his pastime is cycling. His main reason for taking part is fun, fitness and of course raising much needed funds for both clubs. This man loves a good challenge (like also currently training to climb Mount Everest in 2014) and at present is loving every part of the preparation for Lord of the Ring 4. Jason’s pet hate is people that just give out non-stop so let’s hope his opponent doesn’t start giving out on the night otherwise he could be hit very hard by some Black Magic. Hoping this fight goes like he wants…..rock n roll baby, rock n roll!!!!!
Siobhan “UR GlOVES” McCausland 
Siobhan works as manager of the Sandwich Company on the Main Street in Letterkenny. She enjoys basketball, core training, boxing and cycling. Only reason she is taking part is because Boyd asked her, she obviously doesn’t realise how much of a push over he is. She is loving the training and enjoying the experience as much as last year and hopes her winning ways going (she overcome the a determined Sinead Devine in LOTR 3). A woman with way too many pet hates to mention – we get the feeling this is one girl out for victory with and if last year is anything to go on, this will be a fight that will definitely entertain the crowd.
