Swimmers using Letterkenny’s Aura Leisure Centre say they are ‘furious’ after a serious malfunction at the facility’s pool left it partially unusable for almost TWO WEEKS.
A ‘movable’ floor at the deep end of the pool has become stuck at the facility.
This means there is now only partial access to the pool for swimmers.
While the beginner’s end of the pool can be used, the malfunction means that swimmers using the pool competitively cannot train at the deeper end of the facility.
Pool users have been texted about the situation by management at the Aura Leisure Centre.
The text reads “Unfortunately our pool will continue to have restricted access over the next few days. We are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible and your patience is great appreciated. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
A number of swimmers who use the pool for training are competing in the Irish Open Championships this weekend.
Some have opted to use the Finn Valley Leisure Centre swimming pool.
One trainer told Donegal Daily that the situation needs to be rectified stating that the delay in fixing the malfunction is “simply not acceptable.”
He said “Here we have a great facility which is used all year ’round. Somebody needs to explain why it is taking so long to repair this issue.
“Why does it take two weeks to fix a malfunction? Our children are suffering because of this and it is just not on.”
County councillor Gerry McMonagle, who sits on the board of directors on the centre, contacted the Aura after we alerted him to the situation.
Councillor McGonagle was told that it will be now next week when the pool is back operating at full capacity.
It transpires a vital piece of equipment used to raise and lower the floor has broken and a specialist part has bee ordered but will take a number of days before it is sourced and put in place.
Councillor McGonagle added “I would ask people to be patient due to the specialist type of repairs and equipment needed to get the pool back in use for the public.
“Whilst the pool is na integral part of what the Aura has to offer, all other services at the Aura are very much available to the public.”
We have contacted Aura Head Office for a response.
