Would you ever wear a dress made entirely out of metal? No? Well that is exactly what one brave student from the Rosses Community School is doing!
Friends Kerry Graham and Caitlín Ni Rabhairtigh (transition year) have entered a nationwide competition called ‘’Junk Kouture’’ In which, students create fashionable outfits from recycled materials!
Caitlín and Kerry co-designed the dress, and made it all by themselves, and the dress is being modelled by Kerry in the regionals of the competition on the 8th of March, in the Millennium Forum,Derry
Their outfit is a dress, made of over 200 diet coke cans, and over 1000 staples, and its accessories include with a large Trident, which is made from and old Television Arial and bent wire coat hangers, and shoes, studded with a mosaic of old mussel shells, which look like they came from a boutique at the bottom of the sea!
The outfit is based on the old Irish legend of Selkies or Mermaids. Their dress is appropriately named, ‘’What The Water Gave Me’’. It is a beautiful, silver dress, with a long mermaid’s tail.
The girls have been working extremely hard on it since September, and their effort had paid off since they have reached the next stage of the contest!
