Did you ever think that you could make a wedding dress entirely from junk?
Well you can because Niamh Sweeney a transition year student at Rosses community school has done just that. Niamh has made an original wedding dress entirely from junk.
Niamh has entered a nationwide fashion competition called junk koutre which involves young TY students from all across Ireland to design, create and make an original dress from junk.
Her wedding dress is slightly different from everyone else’s as it is a red and white wedding dress instead of a plain white one.
“I think this gives my dress a quirky, fun, fabulous and couture look to it. As you can see from the photos my dress has a trail going out at the back, this gives it a very red carpet look.”
“This could be the future instead of paying hundreds of euro on a wedding dress, you can make one for free, its original, you can make it however you want and whatever you want it to look like!”
The wedding dress was designed and made by Niamh all by herself and is entirely made from junk. Niamh designed the wedding dress and called it ‘sleepybride’ which she has been working on since September.
Her dress is made out of everything and anything to do with beds. From duvets, pillow cases and sheets to springs from an old mattress and lamp wire.
Niamh will be modelling the dress herself on Friday the 8th march in Derry’s Millennium Forum.
Now she desperately needs your help to reach the finals. An online vote is currently taking place from now until Friday the 1st march. Everyone can vote once a day per email by going to www.junkkouture.com and entering their email addresses.
