The case against a Greencastle woman accused of careless driving causing the death of a young Buncrana man last year has been further adjourned.
Lynda O’Doherty, of The Links, Greencastle, is also charged with drink driving in relation to the fatal collision, which claimed the life of pedestrian Jimmy McKenna (25) on June 9, 2024.
The 67-year-old defendant stood with her head down at the back of the court during her latest appearance at Carndonagh District Court, which continues to sit in Buncrana.
Heartbroken parents, James and Michelle McKenna, were also present for the brief hearing to represent their son Jimmy, who died after being struck while walking home from a night out in Moville.
Defence solicitor Patsy Gallagher told Judge Brendan O’Reilly that “directions are still outstanding” from the DPP, as to what should happen next with the case, and whether or not it should go forward to the higher Circuit Court or not.
“It’s quite a serious matter; there’s a fatality here,” Mr Gallagher further told the judge.
Representing the McKenna family, solicitor Ciaran MacLochlainn said he continues to hold a “watching brief in this matter”.
Judge O’Reilly adjourned the case until November 18 for DPP directions.
