The following had a “2” S.Quigg, B.Wallace, M.McGettigan M.McCauley, N.McLaughlin, M.McDermott, J.Kelly B.Corry.
The Alliance arrived in Dunfanaghy to a well presented and beautifully manicured course .The day had a slight breeze and small amounts of rain on occasion. That said it was an excellent day for golf with the back nine made more difficult than the first because of a slight breeze against, this allied with a bitterly cold day served to keep the scores on the low side.
There is an old adage to “beware the injured golfer” This proved to be very true. Michael McGeady, arrived complaining of a sore back and not sure if he should play or not and he then had a winning round that saw him finish 2 strokes ahead of the field. He had 2 birdies and no dropped strokes to finish 2 under the par for the first nine .He dropped a stroke on the par 3 13th birdied the difficult par 5 16th and then ran up a double bogey on par 3 17th.He finished in style however by birding the par 4 18th for a one over total on the back nine and one under par of 67 for the 18 holes. This is the 4th time this season that Michael has won. The runner up Enda Kennedy was 2 over for first nine and 1 under for the back nine to have a one over par 69.Keelan Quigg was 1 over on the front nine and level par for the back nine and got 3rd place as a result of the count back with Enda.
In the nett section Niall McLaughlin from Buncrana Golf Club took the honours by one point from Paul O’Doherty from Greencastle. This is the second time that a member of Buncrana won the Nett this year while Paul is the first from Greencastle to get in the prize list .
Niall had a fabulous 23 points on the first nine which represented a first nine gross of level par,. the same as the Gross winner’s total, He went off the pace a bit after that with 18 points on the back. Paul O’Doherty had garnered but 18 points on the front nine and o nthe more difficult back nine had a great finish for 22 points this was level par Gross.
The battle of the three McGettigans for the Nett Alliance Champion while it was closely run thing ended with last years champion Odran McGettigan achieving the rare feat of retaining his title by edging out his brother,Maurice by one point.
The final outing of the year will be the competition for the Captain
(Marty McDermott‘s) Prize in Rosapenna G.C. on Saturday 23rd March 2013.
